A GLASGOW accountant sacked from Enterprise Ayrshire more than a decade ago after making allegations about the agency's banking procedures has failed with a [pounds]400,000 damages action against his former boss, now a senior executive at Scottish Enterprise.

Edward Edelsten Cairns, an associate member of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants, had accused Enterprise Ayrshire's former director of corporate services, Andrew Downie, of communicating "defamatory statements" about him to third parties, namely Cima and the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland.
