FOOTBALL is often said to be no laughing matter. Particularly if you are a Partick Thistle fan. But the club's caretaker manager begs to differ. Jackie McNamara revealed to Herald Sport last night that he has drawn upon the experiences of 20 years in various football dressing rooms to co-write a sitcom with family friend, Still Game star and one-time Only an Excuse writer Frank Gilhooley.

"It is funny how things have worked out," the former Celtic player said. "I am doing it with a family friend, just passing on bits and bobs that I have picked up and a bit of fiction, as well. It is all football-related stuff, stuff I have had in my head for a long time. I have been doing it for just under a year and everything has just come together. I sat down with Frank, worked stuff out, scripted it and we are filming it now. Obviously, the managerial side of things has come along now but the show is not a hindrance to that because all the work already has been done."
