PAUL "Red" Adair, the firefighter who revolutionised the science of capping exploding and burning oilwells, has died. He was 89.

The diminutive Texan, who boasted none of his employees ever suffered a serious injury fighting dangerous fires, died on Saturday night of natural causes at a Houston hospital, his daughter, Robyn, said.
