TONY Blair yesterday admitted he made mistakes over the handling of the vote on university tuition fees as he attempted to build bridges with his Labour party critics.

The prime minister acknowledged there were lessons to be learned from the debacle, which saw the government's majority slashed from 161 to just five on Tuesday, but insisted he would not shy away from radical public service reform.
