SPORTSCOTLAND, the national sports agency, has been accused of spending too much on its own running costs and too little on grassroots development.

Michael Matheson, SNP spokesman for culture and sport, said just over [GBP]2.6m had gone into community facilities under the Building for Sport programme last year, compared with more than [GBP]4.5m in staff and office running costs for the quango's central Scottish Sports Council bureaucracy.
