Gary Caldwell said yesterday that it was "a massive wrench" to leave Celtic, but admitted that he could not turn down the chance to play in the English Premier League.

The Scotland internationalist has signed a 4½-year deal, understood to be worth pound(s)25,000 per week, to move to Wigan for a fee estimated at around pound(s)1m. Celtic also offloaded Barry Robson (undisclosed fee), Willo Flood and Chris Killen (free transfers) to Gordon Strachan's Middlesbrough yesterday.
