Summary
SERVICES of thanksgiving can be tinged with sadness for those who have died before their time, or unexpectedly, or who could have done more with their lives. There is an instinctive regret for untested hopes and unfulfilled aspirations, or for the disappointment or unfairness which hindsight on life can often propose.
The service forAlan McInroy, at Loretto Chapel, was in a different and uplifting vein. We knew that we were marking the end of a long and satisfying journey, touched by early adversity and by later success, but always well lived. So, as they played When The Saints Go Marching In, our unemotional Scottish spirits soared, and there could have been few who did not feel we "want to be in that number" and were glad to have marched alongside him in life.See the full content of this document
