ALISTAIR Macdonald was a principal officer in the Scottish Office civil service and an elder of Buccleuch & Greyfriars Free Church of Scotland.

The eldest son of John and Annie (nee Mathieson) , Alistair's birth was registered in the District of the Gorbals in Glasgow. He maintained that the family lived in Tradeston: to those who know, that makes all the difference. He was actually baptised Alexander, but known from an early age as Alistair, to distinguish him from an uncle of the same name.
