IT will never be a triumphal, sudden invasion. Any inclusion of the Old Firm in an English league will be a painstaking process. The meeting of English Premier League clubs today may not even vote on the issue as Phil Gartside, chairman of Bolton Wanderers, presents his plans for an EPL2.

Gartside, briefly, wants to increase the Premier League to two divisions of 18. His assertion is that the wealth could be spread to more clubs. He wants 36 of them to benefit from increased revenues from television and gate revenue largely because of the inclusion of Celtic and Rangers.
