Summary
THE annual Hogmanay Gala, promoted by impresario Raymond Gubbay and featuring the RSNO, has been through a number of manifestations over the years, with a variety of presenters; but it has matured into a nicely rounded event. It has a bit of everything but gently resists being merely bitty.
That, in part at least, is down to the wonderfully droll hosting of the event by Joyce Falconer, who has two particular gifts: her timing is brilliant, and, when it's a straight performance coming up next, she doesn't get in the way of the music. Additionally, her annual Concert Hall Rap, which comes near the end and on Friday night managed to work in song titles, composition titles, composers' names and even a reference to conductor Fraser Goulding's rear end, must surely become a fixture of the gala.See the full content of this document
