Organisers of Saturday's Great Edinburgh International cross- country race are to complain to the Home Office after two of the world's top athletes were forced to sleep on a floor at Heathrow Airport because they were delayed en-route to Scotland.

Tirunesh and Ejagayehu Dibaba, sisters from Ethiopia, had not eaten for 26 hours when they finally took part in the event. Their flight had been two hours late on arrival in London and, after completing immigration procedures, they missed their connection to Edinburgh.
