APOLICEMAN was cleared of assault yesterday despite three independent witnesses telling a court they saw him kick a teenage boy.

A not proven verdict was returned on James Walker, a constable with Strathclyde Police known as "Big Jim". He had denied assaulting the youth, Donald McFadyen, outside a McDonald's drive-in restaurant near Loch Lomond.
