A QUANGO boss was given an extra pound(s)60,000 pay-off because of a planned reorganisation which never happened, while a tribunal chief gained more than pound(s)200,000 from the public purse because a disciplinary hearing deemed five bullying charges insufficient to sack her.

These cases of generosity to quango staff who departed under a cloud infuriated members of Holyrood's Public Audit committee yesterday as they questioned the country's most senior civil servant, Sir John Elvidge.
