Anglo-Saxons Are Abused with Impunity

IAN F M Saint-Yves asks: "Why does this current government copy daft suggestions which originate in the US?" It may be because this government is calculatedly the most divisive in living memory. Its policy of devolution deliberately caused resentment, particularly in England where regional assemblies, resoundingly rejected by the electorate, have still been established. Lately, the Iraq war has further divided opinion within the UK. But what has solidly united the Kingdom is the universal disownment of Tony Blair.

Although born and educated in Scotland, the Scots don't want him and the English certainly don't. But the world would compel Hazel Blears to stamp "Anglo-Saxon" on Blair's forehead. Anglo-Saxons are the one ethnic group at which abuse may be hurled, with complete impunity. We are told the French rejected the European constitution because it was too "Anglo-Saxon". Conveniently remembering the Franco-Caledonian Auld Alliance, they forgot that the chancellor of the UK exchequer is a Scot, thereby reinforcing the notion that the French rejection was due to English economic policies. When confronted by their own shortcomings all nations blame their ills on the evil Anglo-Saxons. The only acceptable pejorative acronym with which to label a group of people is Wasp, which stands forWhite Anglo-Saxon Protestant, a pointedly offensive demographic description that has no real meaning in the modern world. As insulting as Wasp may be, consider how much worse it would be for atheists.
