LOOKING back, it seems incredible that we are not talking of Arthur Dixon of Rangers and Scotland. His credentials were impeccable. His father, also Arthur, had been a stalwart centre half in the great Rangers team of the early 1920s.

Arthur the Elder was one of the handful of seasoned professionals on whom manager Bill Struth relied to help him with the shaping of the team. It seemed inevitable, therefore, that Arthur the Younger would end up at Ibrox. "God knows, " said the men at Queen's Park, where he started out, "the road should be familiar enough".
