FIRST Engineering was given the thumbs-up by its potential new boss yesterday after Babcock International agreed a (pounds) 105.7m cash and shares deal to buy its parent group, Peterhouse.

Peter Rogers, chief executive of defence services firm Babcock, which owns the Rosyth shipyard, last night told The Herald: "First Engineering (FE) has a good reputation, which it deserves. We think FE is a good company, but has had a bit of a rough ride, there's no doubt about that."
