Summary
It's almost impossible for an audience today to imagine the impact the performers Hamish Henderson introduced at the 1951 Edinburgh People's Festival Ceilidh had on city dwellers back then. We've become so spoiled by the ready availability of music from every corner, in concerts and through various media, that little now sounds strange or exotic.
Even so, it's still easy to hear through the recording of that first, ground-breaking concert why listeners became excited at the prospect of a whole world of sometimes rugged, sometimes heart- breakingly beautiful, always emphatically real music and song being on tap just over the horizon.See the full content of this document
