SCOTLAND'S reclusive Barclay brothers are among the favourites to triumph in the auction of the Daily Telegraph owner Hollinger International, which moves into its final stages this week.

The multi-millionaire twins, who already own the Scotsman newspaper titles and London's Ritz hotel, are reported to be preparing to submit higher offers than the other bidders. These are German media group Axel Springer, UK private equity firm 3i, Apax, Candover, the US buy-out firm Kohlberg Kravis Roberts, and the Daily Mail & General Trust.
