THE Borders have joined the frantic search for experienced players as Scotland's depleted professional teams still struggle to field sides from among their full-timers.

Steve Bates, the Borders coach, admitted yesterday he is struggling to cope with the tiny squad he has inherited, after agreeing to leave Chris Cusiter and Bruce Douglas out of the side to meet Leeds at Headingley tonight (ko 8pm).
