BBC director-general Mark Thompson is cutting his pay packet by almost 20% in a bid to curb anger over proposals to cap staff pensions.

Mr Thompson is expected to reduce his pay - and that of around 30 of the most senior people at the BBC - by axing the extra pension payments that go to the corporation's top executives.
