RAFAEL BENITEZ last night invited Anfield and its favourite son, Steven Gerrard, to shatter the resolve of Jose Mourinho's super- confident Chelsea and prove money is not everything in football.

On the eve of the Champions League semi-final return leg, Benitez called for Mersey passion to overcome the 'money bags of London'. Refusing to acknowledge Mourinho as the best manager in the world, despite Chelsea clinching the Championship title at Bolton on Saturday, Benitez preferred to concentrate on the aces up his own sleeve, namely the cauldron that will be Anfield, and the unpredictable genius that is Gerrard.
