Bertie Auld last night bridged a five-year gap and returned to Firhill as manager of Partick Thistle after a dramatic day's events which saw Benny Rooney, who is ill in bed sacked. Rooney, who has been suffering from a virus for almost a week, was informed by phone that he had been dismissed after a board meeting in Glasgow yesterday. Chairman Peter Shand confirmed that Auld, who has been out of the game for about two years, will take charge of the team today.
