IAIN A D Mann appears to question the intellectual and intelligence levels of the Labour Party at Holyrood (Letters, October 6). And well he may, but the problem is party-wide, not confined to Labour. The problem is that politicians have allowed their profession to become so sullied that no sensible man or woman would want to become involved.

Scotland has always been noted for its people of high intelligence. But where are these people of ability, wisdom, intelligence and vision to be found today? As far away from Holyrood or even Westminster as possible. The political howffs stink with dirty tricks, double-dealing and political shenanigans. Dogma takes precedence over common sense or public benefit and more time is spent calculating how to keep the party in power than furthering the good of the community.
