IAIN MACWHIRTER (The Herald, July 27) may find a trip to Friesland in northern Holland beneficial. Traffic controls were removed at busy junctions in 2002, and the number of deaths and injuries fell by 50per cent without any effect on traffic flow. Similar initiatives in the UK have also been received positively.
