A FEMALE Nimrod pilot yesterday won a substantial sex discrimination settlement against the RAF after officers' views were branded "sexist, arrogant and frankly illegal" in a scathing judgment by an employment tribunal.

Flight Lieutenant Padraigin Byard, who later fell pregnant after an affair with her married squadron leader, said she was hounded from the force when she complained of institutionalised sexism. One of two women being trained to fly submarine-hunting Nimrods at RAF Kinloss in Moray, Mrs Byard had claimed her crew was "macho, chauvinistic, and almost tribal".
