Scottish councils claim a measure set to be passed in the Housing Bill today could cause homelessness in Scotland to rocket.
The proposal, which would strengthen a duty on councils to provide housing support to homeless people, had looked likely to be blocked by a counter-amendment from MSP Jim Tolson, but the LibDem withdrew his objections yesterday after a coalition of charities wrote to Housing Minister Alex Neil amid fears the Government would back what they described as a "wrecking amendment".See the full content of this document
