A FORMER member of the Bank of England's Monetary Policy Committee has called for the Bank of England's Monetary Policy Committee, which sets interest rates, to be disbanded.

Writing in the latest edition of the New Statesman, Professor David Blanchflower said the MPC was not fit for purpose and had made the recession deeper due to its failure to act.
