Rightly or wrongly the ethos of almost all competitive sport is to try to get away with as much as possible. This may involve rugby players being offside at rucks, footballers engaging in simulation, cricketers appealing when they know opponents are not out, tennis players taking medical breaks when they do not need them simply to upset an opponent's rhythm, or even golfers improving their lies (as in the place where the ball is sitting).
Short of violent conduct - and by that I mean real violent conduct, not the sort of silly wee slap that resulted in the Bolton Wanderers goalkeeper Jussi Jaaskelainen's dismissal last weekend - all is fair in love and sport.See the full content of this document
