GORDON Brown has been accused of failing to get a grip on the expenses scandal and allowing David Cameron to take the initiative after going into a "furious sulk for 13 hours" and becoming obsessed about salvaging his own reputation.

A new book published yesterday by Lance Price, a former No.10 spin doctor, said the unnamed adviser behind the claim, a key member of Downing Street's communications team, described how the Prime Minister had "behaved as if the only story that mattered was the one about himself".
