THE future of professional rugby in the Borders has been guaranteed for the next three years after the SRU promised to safeguard the existing pro teams at a cost of more than pounds-8m per year.

The move highlights the level of confidence the revamped executive board has in turning round Scottish rugby's ailing finances. They have already promised to provide sound funding for the community game and have indicated that there will be no staff cuts.
