STARTING salaries for graduates in Scotland are rising at a higher rate than almost any other part of the UK as companies north of the border seek to counter fears of a brain drain.

Last year, new graduates in Scotland earned an average salary of pounds-19,000, but estimates suggest this could rise by 5.3-per cent to more than pounds-20,000 in 2005.
