FOOD companies are learning to break through the guilt barrier to push the UK's snack consumption to the highest in Europe - even topping that of the US - according to a report by analysts Datamonitor.

Britons eat on average more than (pounds) 143-worth of snacks each year, with more people eating between meals because of busy lives. In the US, the figure is (pounds) 141.50 and in Europe, (pounds) 109.
