BT yesterday turned the heat up on its competitors by slashing the price of its consumer high-speed internet services, and said its broadband roll-out timetable was, in parts of Scotland, nine months ahead of schedule.

The former telecoms monopoly cut 10% off the cost of its 512K broadband service, taking the price down to (pounds) 26.99 a month.
