ALLAN Burns, one of the Scotch whisky industry's key figures for the last 16 years, is to leave Diageo in four months' time to concentrate on wider interests in Scottish business.

Burns, 59, was the 'downsizing expert' headhunted in 1989 by the then United Distillers who masterminded the company's rationalisation of its plants in the early 1990s.
