F&C Asset Management yesterday moved to reassure its 100 staff in Edinburgh that it has no plans to shrink the operation, after it announced the departure of its chief financial officer Ian Paterson Brown.

Paterson Brown, who earned almost GBP600,000 last year and will be entitled to compensation, was the most senior manager in F&C's Edinburgh base, which is largely the investment trust business of the former Ivory & Sime.
