THE Cairngorm National Park could become the first area in Scotland where all farmers receive payment for the recreational and environmental benefits they offer the public, as their subsidies for production are reduced progressively.

The park authority is to call for the Cairngorms to be designated a region for land management contracts under the Common Agricultural Policy reforms and become a pilot area for the scheme.
