TONY Blair yesterday dismissed an attempt by David Cameron to style himself as the legitimate heir of New Labour, with a ringing endorsement of Gordon Brown's modernising agenda.

The prime minister declared on Channel 4's Richard and Judy show that he was intent on getting on with the job of improving schools and healthcare and formulating an energy policy, and applauded Mr Cameron's decision to change direction.
