DAVID Cameron "can't airbrush his party's past", Alistair Darling insisted today as he claimed the Conservatives were out of touch and irrelevant to Scotland.

The Chancellor, due to speak at an economics conference in Edinburgh tonight, is expected to say that while there is still much to do, he is "confident we will lock in economic recovery" and will talk about his forthcoming "Budget for Growth", which The Herald has been told is pencilled in for Wednesday March 24.
