Summary


HALF a million visitors have passed through the doors of Edinburgh's newly reopened National Museum of Scotland in fewer than six weeks. Organisers put the "staggering" figure down to a tourism boost from staycationers, foreign visitors and festival-goers.

Edinburgh Castle also welcomed its highest number of paying visitors since records began, with almost 206,000 people visiting the landmark last month.
