Summary
ITWAS with a mixture of despair and anger that I watched the TV appeal for aid to combat famine in Niger. This is no unforeseen tsunami but a catastrophe that the world has simply, by standing back, allowed to happen.
It frankly annoys me as an individual to be asked urgently to contribute to these appeals when we have a government whose function it is to respond on our behalf to these international situations. The fact that we find ourselves yet again facing international aid organisations, cap-in-hand, asking for our help demonstrates that the current government response to such situations is inadequate.See the full content of this document
