Cathie McLay, who has died suddenly at the age of 64, was the creative spirit behind a unique Glasgow textile and historic clothing store, The Saratoga Trunk. Film companies from the US, European opera companies, British theatrical and TV producers all beat a path to her door to purchase costumes and jewellery to give atmosphere to their productions.

Born Catherine Hamilton, in Stonehouse, Lanarkshire, in 1939, where her family belonged to the strong Presbyterian tradition, Cathie came to Glasgow as a child when her parents moved to the city after the war.
