IT has been raised by Gail Sheridan and her legal representative, Aamer Anwar, that there are concerns over the BBC documentary showing CCTV footage of her interviews whilst in Lothian and Borders Police custody ("Gail Sheridan accuses police of religious persecution", The Herald, January 20). Gail was arrested and questioned in an operation carried out by Lothian and Borders Police with charges relating to perjury, but has since had all charges dropped.
Under data protection rules, images belong to the individuals and permission must be sought prior to even being captured on CCTV. Furthermore, images captured should never be used for entertainment and titillation. Can anyone answer why the tapes were shown on a national broadcasting programme?See the full content of this document
