HERE we go again. Smoke and mirrors from the Scottish Executive on the Scottish economy. In a series of exhaustive exchanges over the years since the "Smart Successful Scotland" routine was announced, it has constantly been pointed out that it will deliver little while Scotland has no meaningful economic powers.
Scotland labours with an interest rate twice the natural rate for the country. Imagine how a doubling of the rate would cripple the economy of south-east England. Our tax system cannot be altered to suit and stimulate economic conditions in Scotland, the way Ireland has done, as the tax structures are designed for south-east of England. Our economic growth will continue to lag behind the UK, which again in comparison to Ireland is not that impressive anyway.See the full content of this document
