CHARLES Gordon, the outspoken former leader of Glasgow City Council, was chosen last night as Labour's candidate in the Cathcart by-election, completing a bad week for Jack McConnell.

Mr Gordon, 53, who has previously criticised the first minister's abilities, was chosen in a vote of local party members at Mount Florida primary school.
