Until Thu April 8, various dates, times and prices, Edinburgh Filmhouse, Lothian Road, and Glasgow Film Theatre, Rose Street, 0131 228 2689 or 0141 332 8128 It doesn't feel that long ago that "Spanish film" seemed to be represented only by tourist information reels of the delights of Torremolinos. Or perhaps that was just how it appeared on our sun-starved (and Latin culture-starved) little island.

But from the surrealist genius of Louis Bunuel's The Discrete Charm of the Bourgeoisie, to arguably the world's most prolific director, Jess Franco (creator of gems including Vampyros Lesbos, whose music Quentin Tarantino pinched for Jackie Brown), and beyond to the better known Technicolor Catholic kitschery of Pedro Almodovar, Spanish cinema has a rich, varied and colourful heritage.
