THE deep Labour divisions on tuition fees widened yesterday as Charles Clarke, the education secretary, launched a broadside at Nick Brown, a former cabinet member.
Mr Clarke condemned Mr Brown's arguments after he said at the weekend that "it is fundamentally wrong that access to the very best courses should be by money and not by ability." Mr Clarke wrote to him: "If such an approach were what we were proposing then it would indeed be wrong, unfair, and completely at odds with Labour's values. But we are not.
