TOMMY BURNS, a man well versed in the brutal nature of Old Firm management, last night denounced as "absolutely mental" those who are pushing for Alex McLeish to be sacked from Rangers after winning seven trophies in four years.

Burns, in charge at Celtic between 1994 and 1997, has watched with mounting indignation and bafflement as the clamour for McLeish's dismissal has grown to a level where the end seems imminent.
