Its name spelled out in diamonds at the recent Paris collections, Chanel No 5 is indisputably the most famous fragrance in the world. Now, in Nicole Kidman, it has found one more goddess, a commercial deity whose image will further boost the salon's perfume sales in these profit-driven weeks before Christmas.

Kidman's new role as the face of Chanel will be seen in its latest video. Directed by Baz Lurhmann, who worked with Kidman on Moulin Rouge, the video cost $14.5m which makes it the most expensive promotion of its kind. Kidman is reputed to have been paid $6.25m for a performance which lasts no more than two minutes.
