THE Care Commission, whose formal name is The Scottish Commission for the Regulation of Care, was set up in April 2002 and oversees the work of more than 14,500 services every year.

More than one quarter (28.6%) of services regulated by the Commission are children's day care centres, while 40.8% are provided by childminders, caring for at least one child for more than two hours per day.
