BASHING the major supermarkets is a popular past-time for farmers but that might well be a misguided approach, according to Andrew Moxey, the former head of analytical services with the Scottish Executive's Environment and Rural Affairs Department.

Moxey, who is now an independent consultant, delivered the keynote address in Edinburgh yesterday at a conference staged by the Scottish Agricultural College on the future of farming in Scotland.
